Located in Prayagraj district, the project will add 2,400 MW through three ultra‑supercritical 800 MW units.
REC Ltd and PFC Ltd, India’s leading power sector financiers, have signed a ₹268.5 billion common loan agreement with Meja Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd (MUNPL) to fund the second stage of the Meja Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh.
The project, located in Prayagraj district, will add 2,400 MW of ultra‑supercritical capacity through three 800 MW units. REC is the lead financer, with both REC and PFC contributing equally to the loan.
MUNPL is a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC Ltd and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL).
The Stage‑II expansion is expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s energy security, ensuring a reliable supply for households, farms, and industries while supporting the state’s growth ambitions.
Equipped with advanced technology, the new units will consume less coal and emit fewer pollutants compared to older plants, making them more efficient and environmentally responsible.
The project will generate thousands of jobs during construction and operation, boost local infrastructure in Meja sub-district, and provide stable power for industrial corridors, manufacturing clusters, and urban expansion.
