Boards can be seen in Aurangabad on six roads, which say that maintaining or repairing the city roads is the responsibility of the State Public Works Department (PWD) and its not the task of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
The AMC has been receiving complaints from the public and commuters about the bad roads in the city. In turn, the AMC has put up the boards to convey that the road repairs is not its task.
However, the commuters and citizens of the city have not been convinced with the AMC’s message. Instead, the public insists that AMC is bound to provide at least basic amenities such as roads, water and solid waste management in the city. Some other public view is that AMC’s act is only aimed at diverting attention from the issue.
Through a survey, conducted by the civic body itself, it has been identified that about 1,200 km roads in the AMC’s jurisdiction have over 40,000 potholes, which should be repaired immediately, demand the public.
