Tadadi port has nine bidders that have already submitted their request for qualification (RFQ) to the government after the State Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDC) proposed to build the port under Public Private Partnership (PPP). The government has planned to establish the port at the Aghanashini estuary and to build a 3×700 MW capacity gas-based power plant in Tadadi. Land acquisition for the port will not be a problem as the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board has 1,819 acres of land at Madangeri and Tadadi, already in its possession. The all-weather port will be able to handle 34 million tonnes of cargo pa. However, the capacity of the project is 100 million tonne.
However, the project also has a few obstacles as it is under the CRZ and the state has to seek exemption from the Centre. Further, Aghanashini estuary has rich mangrove ecosystem, which is considered the cradle for marine species.
