Improve logistics in coastal shipping for savings: Study
A study by global consultants McKinsey & Co and AECOM for the Ministry of Shipping says optimising the logistics flow for key commodities by 2025 could save Rs.30,000-40,000 crore. It recommends creation of more capacity at major ports and a logistics aggregator company to consolidate the shipping supply chain.
GMB scouts for newer locations
Gujarat, which accounts for 74 per cent of the traffic by all non-major ports and 89 per cent of the total shipbuilding orders in India, is now scouting for newer locations for setting up green-field ports and shipyards.
VPT to rope in consultant for Bheemili port project
Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) plans to rope in a Delhi-based consultant firm, Aecom, for preparing a detailed feasibility report (DFR) for the proposed satellite port at Bheemili. In 6 months time, the consultant firm may submit its report after studying topographical, hydrological and other relevant aspects like projected traffic after two decades
