HCC, as a lead partner in the joint venture with HSEPL has been awarded Rs 672.99 crore contract on EPC basis for the construction of Parwan Gravity Dam by the Water Resources Department, Government of Rajasthan. HCCÂ’s share in the JV is 90% (Rs 605.70 crore).

The roads sector had witnessed an aggressive bidding during the financial year 2011 and 2012. Projects of over 11,000 km were awarded during these years. But the lack of proper governance affected the execution of most of these projects.

Roads and highways sector has observed a significant growth over the past few years compared to the other heavy civil engineering sectors such as power and water. The growth has come, especially in the EPC mode of the business, whereas PPP and annuity based projects have also witnessed a few bids.
Infra-Landmarks: Few and far between
The past 12 months have not belonged to infrastructure flag-offs. As the economy turned south in 2008-09, not as many infra projects as targeted were awarded, especially those in road, rail, port and energy; in most cases, the targets themselves took a heavy beating.
