The All-India Agricultural Workers´ Union (AIAWU) members staged a protest against the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) for recommending measures against the free supply of electricity to irrigation pump sets (IP sets), and fixing meters to the Bhagya Jyothi and Kuteera Jyothi schemes.

A staggering 90 per cent of coal-based thermal power plants in India fare unsatisfactorily on the environmental front. While state-owned power generation companies are among the worst performers, plants owned by private firms have performed better on environmental and energy parameters.

CESC power distribution contract overseas
The power flagship of the Rs 10,000 crore RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, CESC has now taken the first step in power distribution space overseas, bagging a distribution right for Port Harcourt in Nigeria, Sanjiv Goenka, Vice-Chairman, CESC and Chairman of RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, said. The distribution right covers an area of 48,000 sq km and an annual turnover of $180 million.
