The proposed second major port in Andhra Pradesh at Duggarajupatnam has been opposed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) since the beginning. Isro opposed the port proposal at at Duggarajupatnam because of its close proximity to the space centre or spaceport at Sriharikota.

Vizag port takes up expansion at Rs.4,500 cr
To expand its cargo handling capacity, Visakhapatnam port plans to spend Rs 4,500 crore. The port's existing capacity is 65 million tonne (mtpa) and it plans to enhance it to 110 mtpa by 2015-16.
VPT to set up a major port in Nellore district
With an investment of Rs 9,500 crore, Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) will establish a major port at Duggarajupatnam in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. The exact location proposed for the port is at Duggarajupatnam, where four berths would be constructed. The site would be developed as a major port in the East Coast, VPT said in Visakhapatnam.
