Transmitting station in Chennai
The Union Minister of shipping GK Vasan laid the foundation of the Parangipettai Navtex Transmitting Station at a function in Chennai recently. The Minister said that as part of the governmentĂÂŽs obligations under the Safety of Life at Sea Convention, his Ministry has asked its technical arm of the Directorate General of Lighthouses & Lightships (DGLL) to provide for continuous Navigational Telex (Navtex) coverage of Indian waters.
Govt is striving to bring investments into ports: Vasan
The Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan has said on November 27 that the government is making continuous efforts to attract investment in the ports sector for augmentation of freight. Vasan said that Belgium is India's second largest trading partner with more than 150 Belgian companies in India with interests in dredging, chemicals, engineering goods, electronics and software etc.

The Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan has dedicated two terminals of the Kandla Port to the nation. Speaking on the occasion at a function in Bangalore recently he said that this port since its inception and especially in the last decade has grown from strength to strength fuelling growth of Kutch, Gujarat and India.
Govt to up ports’ capacity to 3,200 mtpa
Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan on November 16 said that the Ministry targets to boost the capacity of Indian ports to 3,200 million tonne (mt) by 2020. The capacity of Indian ports, including major and non major ports, has now crossed 1,300 million tonne per annum (mtpa).

The Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan dedicated two terminals of the Kandla Port to the nation on November 16. Guidelines soon to ports for pollution mitigation
The Union government will soon issue guidelines to streamline the process of collection of oil cess which can be then used to assist ports to equip themselves for pollution mitigation, said the Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan. Steps are also being taken to delegate powers to State Authorities for registration, survey and certification of fishing vessels.
Foundation laid to Navtex transmitting station in Chennai
The Union Minister of shipping GK Vasan said that his Ministry is taking further steps to provide the state of the art aids to facilitate navigation and to set up a most formidable surveillance network for identifying unfriendly vessels.
India, Japan to up cooperation in maritime sector
India and Japn have agreed to enhance their interaction through the existing forums and through port-to-port exchanges. These issues came up for a discussion between Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan, who is on an official visit to Japan and his Japanese counterpart Akihiro Ohta, Minister of land, Industries and Transport and Tourism, Government of Japan.
India, Japan to up cooperation in shipping
India and Japan proposes to strengthen their cooperation in the shipping sector. In this connection a delegation under the leadership of Union Minister of Shipping Shri GK Vasan is visiting Japan from November 9-12th on an invitation from Akihiro Ohta, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Government of Japan.
