Tata Steel has dropped plans to set up a ferrochrome complex at Gopalpur in Odisha but will build a plant with a capacity of 55,000 tonnes at the same place. This unit is scheduled for commissioning by the first week of September.

Phailin effect: Operations suspended at ports
Due to the cyclone Phailin all operations at Dhamra, Paradip and Gopalpur ports in Odisha were suspended for two days. Since ships also run the risk of damaging the berths, all ports have moved the vessels away.

OdishaĆās port connectivity projects
Odisha government proposed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to upgrade road connectivity to six non-major ports in Astarang, Baliharchandi, Gopalpur, Dhamra, Chudamani and Subarnarekha. It may be recalled that in February 2012, the Odisha government awarded the contract for feasibility studies for four-lane connectivity to these non-major ports to two consultants.e "preloaded content"

MoEF clears Gopalpur port
The decks have been finally cleared for developing the minor, seasonal port at Gopalpur into an all-weather port with the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) giving its green signal.
