Aranmula airports green nod cancelled
The National Green Tribunal's verdict cancelling the environmental clearance given to the KGS Group to build the country's first private international airport at Aranmula is a huge setback for the company as well as Kerala government.

In response to a petition filed by the Aranmula Heritage Village Protection Action Council, the National Green Tribunal has stayed the Rs 2,000-crore Aranmula private airport project in Kerala. The council argues that the construction of a private airport was in violation of the provisions of the Kerala Conservation of Paddy and Wet Land Act, 2008, Kerala Land

Chennai-based KGS Group of companies is all set to start work in this January on the Aranmula International Airport project in Kerala. It has got all requisite clearances from the authorities concerned, said Gigi George, Managing Director, KGS Aranmula International Airport. He said the work on the Rs 2,000-crore project would commence in the second week of this January and is expected to be ready for airport operations by December 2014.
