MPT registers robust growth in 2013-14
Mara Pandiyan, Chairman, Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), said that the port, which was earlier known as the iron ore port, last year had almost 99.9 per cent non-iron ore activities and still registered robust growth.
New Dy Chairman at Mormugao Port
Cyril C George, Secretary, Cochin Port Trust has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Mormugao Port Trust. George started his career in the shipping sector as a Labour Officer with Kandla Port Trust in 1987. He also served as the Deputy Chairman of Kandla Dock Labour Board. He became the Deputy Secretary of Kandla Port Trust in 2001 and was transferred to Cochin Port Trust as Secretary in 2003.
MPT handles largest vessel
Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) received its largest cargo carrying ship till date, the MV Dhun, on 2 February. The ship brought around 1,04,000 tonne of cargo. MPT-Æs Chairman P Mara Pandiyan congratulated all the crew members of the ship for their efforts in bringing the large vessel into the port.
MPT turns adverse situation into a biz opportunity
Though mining in Goa has been banned, the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has successfully turned the adverse situation into its favour by attracting new cargo to the port. The port said that now it expects tremendous amount of cargo from neighbouring states into through the MPT.
Ore quantity of e-auctioning is very megre for port
The Mormugao Port Trust in Goa could see an increase in its cargo as the Supreme Court allowing the e-auction of about 11 million tonne (mt) of iron ore mined in the state. However, this is just a fourth of about 40 mt of iron-ore cargo the port handled in its heydays.
