Expressing angry over Delhi government for its indiscriminate felling of trees the National Green Tribunal on April 9 ordered an interim stay on a road widening project in South DelhiĆās Vasant Kunj till the next hearing on May 29. The tribunal also warned the Delhi government of strong action if further felling of trees took place. The government admitted that the Public Works Department had started felling trees without mandatory permission from the Forest Department.

Green tribunal stays Delhi road widening over tree felling
The National Green Tribunal has ordered an interim stay on PWD's road-widening project along the Andheria Mod-Mahipalpur stretch, where trees were found to be felled illegally. On March 18, a bench headed by NGT Chairman Justice Swatanter Kumar, asked the Delhi government, the Forest Department and PWD to not fell any tree except in cases where permission from the department concerned has been obtained till the next date of hearing.
