The C Rangarajan Committee, which was set up in October this year, made some key recommendations to be submitted to the Highway Ministry that include rescheduling of premium that road developers are liable to pay to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and some breather from penalty norms.

Residents oppose toll booth in Bantwal
Opening of road toll booth at Brahmarakotlu in Bantwal taluk in Karnataka is being opposed by the residents in the taluk and they warned the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that they will intensify their protest if the NHAI opens the road toll without stopping the Panemangalore bridge toll collection.
NHAI cuts land demand for highway widening
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has submitted a revised proposal to the Madhya Pradesh state wildlife wing seeking clearance for 37-km road widening between Mansar in Maharashtra and Khawasa in Madhya Pradesh on NH7. In the revised proposal, the NHAI has reduced the land requirement for the project.
Kota-Jhalawar h’way project prevented
The proposed four-laning of national highway project between Kota and Jhalawar by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been foreclosed. The Ministry of Environment and Forests' has refused the road project plan, as it involved felling of trees and will also runs through the Darrah wildlife sanctuary and affect the tiger reserve there badly.
NHAI releases Rs 17 cr for Panipat-Jalandhar h’way repairs
For undertaking immediate repairs and maintenance works on the national highway 1 (NH1) between Panipat and Jalandhar, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has released Rs 17 crore to the Punjab and Haryana governments. The NHAI has also served a notice on the project concessionaire Soma Isolux asking it to suspend toll collection as it was not maintaining the highway.
Repairs soon to Gurgaon-Jaipur highway
The Union Highways Minister Oscar Fernandes and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) have said that repairs would be taken up on Gurgaon-Jaipur highway soon. The Minister said that he had already travelled on this stretch twice since he took over charge.
Special road development scheme for Kerala: Fernandes
For development of roads in Kerala, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) plans to have a special scheme considering the problem of shortage of land faced by the state, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Oscar Fernandes said in Thiruvananthapuram on July 15.
The details of the scheme would be announced after clearing certain technical parameters, he said.
Rs 78 cr for NH-31D repairs in West Bengal
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has recently issued a communication about sanction of Rs 78 crore for carrying out repairs on two stretches of NH-31D, which connects Siliguri with Jalpaiguri; these are Phulbari to Moynaguri and Moynaguri to Dhupguri.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had earlier taken an initiative of expanding the two-lane highway into a four-lane one as well as repairing the two stretches.
Collector for action against illegal constructions in Pune
Pune District Collector Vikas Deshmukh on June 10 asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the sub-divisional magistrate to file cases under the NHAI Act and Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act (MRTP) against those responsible for the illegal constructions on the four-kilometer stretch near Katraj tunnel on Pune-Satara road, where a mother and daughter were swept away in gushing rainwater on June 6.
NHAI to be asked to pace up work on elevated road to BIA
The Karnataka government is to bring pressure on the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the signal free elevated road to Bangalore International Airport (BIA) at the earliest. Members in the State Legislature on June 11 raised a hue and cry over the inordinate delay in completing the elevated stretch on the 22-kilometre BIA Road.
