The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been urged by the Madhya Pradesh government to resolve issues related to national highways, pending for a long time. Madhya Pradesh Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on January 28 appealed to the Prime Minister refund Rs 200 crore to the state spent by it on repairing and maintenance of national highways.

Toll on highways may be reduced to 40% after 30-yrs
The Union Road Ministry is mulling over a proposal to reduce national highway toll to only 40 per cent of the prevailing rate after a period of 30 years. If implemented, it will bring relief to commuters traveling on national highways.
MP faces lack of funds for road maintenance
Sources in Madhya Pradesh bureaucracy complain that inadequate funds being provided by the Centre is a main reason for bad condition of roads in the state. On the development of national highways passing through the state Centre provide megre funds for their maintenance, official sources said.
AP’s 11 State highways to become national highways
In Andhra Pradesh, the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways has notified/cleared 11 State roads as national highways spanning a length of 1,817 km. Of this bunch of approvals, five State roads are already notified as national highways and the rest of the six have been now cleared to be taken up as national highways.
