Gujarat as a State has tremendous potential both naturally as well as physically. Being well connected by rail and road is an added advantage although air connectivity needs improvement. Its well-equipped ports are a tremendous boost for industries in the State.

Revenue model needs to change
In the revenue sharing model, an investor who is investing in the port project should also get some comfort level in the initial years, says Umesh Grover, Group Executive Director, Shipping & Infrastructure, SKIL Infrastructure. There has to be a gestation period but as the cargo increases, the proportion of revenue share should also be increased.

Govt to set up Rs 4,000 cr VLCC shipyard
Centre plans to set up a shipyard to produce very large crude carriers (VLCCs) under public-private partnership with an investment of Rs 3,000-4,000 crore, in lieu of Hindustan Shipyard going to the defence ministry.
