The ancient Chinese curse, 'May you live in interesting times,' certainly has a lot of pertinence to the Indian real estate today. These are doubtlessly the interesting times for the sector, which has transformed significantly over the last decade.

We have a lot of positive expectations from the upcoming Budget 2016-17. My thoughts are focussed on three major points - transparency on GST, encouraging the Real Estate Regulation Act (RERA), and REIT.

Further, investment in warehousing can provide an opportunity of realising returns in the range of 10-24 per cent per annum.

GMR, MEP Infra & IRB Infra to launch infra investment trusts

Developers will be able to get rid of their excess baggage
We are almost there both with REIT and InvIT. They have been in the pipeline for quite some time. The government has taken the initiative to come out with proper SEBI regulations, which itself is the very first step towards REITs and InvITs.
