Maha spends Rs 2,368 cr on its roads
Maharashtra has a road network of 2,41,000 km. The state’s expenditure on roads has increased from Rs 539 crore in 2005 to Rs 2,368 crore. In 1996, the state government decided to formulate a private-public-partnership (PPP) policy to finance its Road Development Plan (1981–2001), which in turn called for about Rs 26,000 crore of investments.
Pune division seeks Rs 2,500 cr for road development
To develop a road network of 24,569 km in Pune division comprising Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur and Kolhapur districts the Pune Divisional Commissionerate has sought Rs 2,500 crore from the Centre and the State governments. The commissionerate has also sought around Rs 800 crore for repair of roads.
Logistics need operational push
The railways sector has more scope to grow than any other transport sector. With a current length of 71,000 km, its coverage is far below what it should be for both passenger and freight traffic.
