Assam to get 3000-km new roads
Media reports say that the Union Cabinet on July 3 approved a proposal by the Rural Development Ministry to relax norms for Assam so that 1,877 unconnected habitats can get road connectivity under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). These habitats, having population ranging between 250 and 499, will now be connected new roads covering a length of 3,140 km.
Spending on rural job scheme declines
Central allocation for the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) witnessed the steepest decline this year.Money released for the scheme fell from Rs 35,242 crore last year to Rs 21,441 crore this year, while expenditure has gone down from Rs 39,000 crore last year to Rs 20,000 crore as of January end.
Land records digitisation soon
The Central government is set to infuse some urgency into the digitisation of land records at the first meeting of the National Council of Land Reforms.The council, headed by the Prime Minister, will discuss the recommendations of a committee on state agrarian relations set up by the Rural Development Ministry in 2009.
