In Tamil Nadu, the four-lane highway from Madurai (Virahanoor-Paramakudi) is progressing with a revised plan. GAIL gets interim relief from HC order
In an interim relief to Gas Authority of India (GAIL), the Madras High Court stayed an order passed by the Tamil Nadu government for removal of pipelines laid by the gas utility major in farm lands in the state. GAIL was laying pipeline in some farm areas of Tamil Nadu as part of its Kochi-Bangalore pipeline project. However, farmers raised objection to the project in the state and this prompted the state government to disallow the project
Govt targets TN’s hospitality sector to promote solar power
In Tamil Nadu, the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is now targeting hospitals and hospitality sectors to promote solar energy as an alternative. To demonstrate this, the Union government partnered with the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) and Global Environment Fund (GEF) to conduct programmes based on solar power for market development.
Rains hinder ghat road repairs in TN’s Nilgiris district
In Tamil Nadu, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to complete the repair and maintenance works on the ghat road to the Nilgiris at the earliest. Though it started the works last month, rain in the Blue Mountains has slowed down the job. NHAI said that it planned to repair and strengthen the road for 114 km from Kallar to Kakanallah in three phases.
