Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly asked the ministries of coal, railways, shipping and power to work out a plan for better movement of coal though coastal and inland waterways and present the policy on the same to the cabinet.
Union minister Nitin Gadkari has said the Centre is targeting a net profit of Rs 2,500 crore from its 12 major ports in the next two years. Shipping and waterways would contribute at least one per cent to the countryÂ´s GDP by March 2016, he added.

Following poor response from bidders in the initial global tender, the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) plans to conduct a road show for the Rs 115 crore dredging project in the Gulf of Khambhat. The board wants to dredge the area in order to facilitate the proposed ro-ro ferry service linking Ghogha in Bhavnagar to Dahej. An official statement from the GMB shows that the channel's length will be about 4,30
