The Board of Directors of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) recently approved the elevation of SN Subrahmanyan as a Whole-time Director, with effect from 1 July. Subrahmanyan is currently Senior Vice President and Head–Buildings & Factories and Infrastructure Independent Companies. This induction is a part of L&T's succession plan.
Subrahmanyan is a civil engineer with postgraduate qualifications in business management. He joined L&T in 1984 starting off as project planning engineer, and was soon handpicked for senior responsibilities.
Subrahmanyan's notable achievements include playing a pivotal role in securing and managing EPC contracts for construction of four major international airports in India at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai. On the international side, he has secured a major order for construction of Salalah Airport at Oman, one of the largest international orders for L&T.
The Buildings & Factories business has grown rapidly under Mr. Subrahmanyan's leadership, and has executed many prestigious jobs such as ICICI Bank, National Stock Exchange Buildings and Tidel Park. The operations of these two Independent companies are spread across India and the Middle East.
At 51, Subrahmanyan may be just what L&T is seeking to induct into its Board, given the problem that its key personnel will retire in the same period—and that the company already in that period of 2-3 years. Watch this space in June, when KV Rangaswami, Whole-time Director & President (Construction), will retire from the Board of the company.
