The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) is set to become the highest toll-generating project in the state, roping in a whopping Rs 1.1 crore as toll everyday. This is about double the toll collected from the five entry points in Mumbai and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, which generate aroÂund Rs 50 lakh as toll daily. The 22 km-long bridge will connect Sewri in the island city to Nhava in Navi Mumbai. The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) estimated that by 2018, when it is completed, 44,975 vehicles will use the bridge on a daily basis.
According to the MMRDA estimate, a car will have to pay Rs 182 for a one-way journey. A light commercial vehicle will pay Rs 243, trucks will pay Rs 432, heavy commercial vehicles will pay Rs 432 and multi-axle vehicles will have to pay Rs 620. Meanwhile, the MMRDA will spend Rs 3,500 crore from its own pocket on the project.
