The Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) has given its green signal to entrust the Mumbai-based Essar Power the job of power supply and distribution in Patna. According to BSEB member (Finance) Vinayak Prasad Gupta, the Board has already sent a letter to Essar Power, seeking its acceptance of the offer.
The move to privatise power supply and distribution in the Bihar capital has been necessitated in view of the huge loss in revenue collection suffered by the Board. Official sources said that the monthly revenue collection in Patna is around Rs 60-70 crore as against the actual power consumption to the tune of Rs 90 crore. The gap of more than Rs 20 crore is huge. Essar’s job would be power supply and distribution, meter reading, bill distribution, revenue collection, maintaining low-tension lines and attending to fuse-off calls.
