For the inhabitants of Tangdhar in Kashmir delay by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to macadamise the Baghbela- Chitterkot road has become a source of inconvenience.
Widening of the Baghbela- Chitterkot road was started soon after the devastating earthquake in 2005. Though the road was widened within the stipulated time in 2006, however the BRO authorities resorted to “dilly- dallying tactics†to macadamise it.
In absence of macdamisation billows of dust emanate from the road in summer due to vehicular movement. This has taken a heavy toll on the health of inhabitants besides polluting environment.
Doctors at the Sub district hospital Tangdhar said majority of people in the area are suffering from chest and eye infection, and allergy due to dust emanating from the road.
In absence of proper drainage on the road, rainwater seeps into many residential houses in Kandi areas causing extensive damage to them.
