Mumbai-based defence shipyard Mazagon Dock (MDL) plans to enter into alliance with Pipavav Shipyard, Larsen and Toubro and ABG Shipyard to construct warships.

Media reports suggest that the defence ministry would study the alliance of MDL with these private shipyards in order to ensure that there was no violation of rules framed earlier this year for defence public sector companies to enter into JVs with private bodies. Based on the study, the ministry would decide whether to give approval for the joint ventures. The legalities of the proposed contract would be looked into, as a defence company needed to adhere to rules set by the government, reports suggest.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the dock plans to give out a biennial rate contract for house keeping of P15A ships and P15B ships under construction at its facility.
