The Karnataka government is considering widening the 140 km Mysore–Bangalore stretch into six-lane owing to the high density of traffic on the highway, Minister for Public Works HC Mahadevappa has said. The traffic volume on the highway soared on holidays, with the density being nearly 70,000 passenger car units a day.
The Minister would discuss with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who holds the Finance portfolio, and take a final decision, the Minister said.
Road information system would be improved to provide details to road-users and ensure smooth movement of traffic on State and national highways in Karnataka, he said. On potholes, he said department officials had been instructed to cover them by calling short tenders.
On the excess land given to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises, Mahadevappa said he would examine the matter and take appropriate action.
