Nashik District Guardian Minister and State Public Works Department Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has said that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has shown interest in participating in the development work of Ozar airport, around 20 km from Nashik city. The AAI has written to the state government showing willingness to participate in the development of Ozar airport along with the defence ministry, which includes constructing facilities for airplane hangars, taxi ways, night parking, cargo hub, etc., that will help divert traffic in case of emergencies, Bhujbal said on July 27.
He said the government and AAI were in talks to develop the airport, estimated to be carried out at a cost of Rs 300 crore, and may announce the strategy after finalizing the events. At present, apart from VIP movement, the Ozar airport is used by Hindustan Aeronautics and the Indian Air Force’s 11 BRD base. There is no passenger service from the airport as of now.
