Tanzania mandates ECTN for all imports from Sept 1

All import cargoes, including transit cargoes, would be covered by an Electronic Cargo Tracking Note (ECTN) in Tanzania from next September 1. Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), which manages ports in the country, has decided so. This decision results from TPAÂ’s desire to improve control on declared cargo values, the occupation of port facilities and the safety of the ports and the territory, as also to ensure availability of accurate statistics on cargo flows into the country.

Antaser Afrique will provide TPA the Electronic Cargo Tracking Note worldwide through its international agency network. TPA has entered into a service cooperation agreement with Antaser Afrique. The validated ECTN will be a mandatory document for (transit) Customs clearance at Tanzanian ports; cargoes arriving without ECTN will be blocked for delivery until validation of a regularisation ECTN by Antaser Afrique.

The procedures call for the ECTN to be completed at the loading port for each Bill of Lading by the shipper or his forwarder. After control of its contents and of the mandatory attached documents (copy of the BL, Commercial Invoice and Export Customs Declaration), the ECTN will be validated by AntaserÂ’s local sub-agent and released electronically to the shipper.
