As Middle Eastern ports vie for Indian transhipment trade, UAE-based Ajman Free Zone (AFZ) has recently expanded its footprint into India in alliance with AFZA International Pvt Ltd. Free Zones in the UAE and the neighbouring region have been luring Indian companies to establish trade hubs in their tax-free economic zones attached to ports.

Already, more than 40 per cent of AFC’s investors are from the Indian subcontinent. Expansion is on at AFZ to accommodate 4,000 companies, prompting the Zone to emphasise the new capacity to key markets, including the Indian subcontinent, Africa and the UK-the three regions where the Zone is considering opening marketing offices. In a recent slew of initiatives particularly aimed at attracting SMEs, AFZ has introduced smart offices and smart warehouses, along with instalment-linked payment options. In a new marketing aggression, AFZ is a planning a road show across India later this year.
