With an objective to increase its yearly cargo volume, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) is planning to host a business meet at Kalinganagar in October. PPT is to appeal to industrialists to utilise the port facility for import and export of their products and raw materials.
Paradip port has set an ambitious aim of 66 million tonne (mt) cargo traffic for 2013-14, 17 per cent higher than the amount handled in the previous year.
During 2012-13, the port handled 56.55 mt cargos, registering 4.2 per cent yearly growth. The port handled about 5 mt cargo in September, aggregating total traffic handled by the port in the first 5 months of the current fiscal to 34 mt.
The major component of the traffic include thermal coal, fertilizer raw materials, coking coal, ferrochrome and iron ore.
