The Union government has approved proposals for roads worth Rs 354 crore in Maharashtra to improve its infrastructure works. The road works will be funded under the Centre’s flagship Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

A communication from the Centre received by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in this regard. He said on October 19 that he had received confirming the approvals for the road works from the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh.

The Union government had approved 105 road improvement proposals and another 29 for construction of bridges. Staking credit, the CMO claimed that it was Chavan who had followed up with the Centre regarding the proposals. The rural development department and the PWD, responsible for such works in the state, are controlled by Congress ally NCP.
