For maintenance and improvement of its State highways, the Uttar Pradesh government has sought Rs 2,500 crore as assistance from the Centre. The State government has asked Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry to release the required funds immediately.
The State PWD Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said that he has asked the Centre for Rs 1,300 crore for maintenance of highways that are in dilapidated condition. The State has also sought Rs 900 crore for widening of Delhi border-Dasna stretch of NH-4, which will be made six lanes to meet traffic requirement, said Yadav. Yadav said he has met the Union Road Transport Minister Oscar Fernandes on October 25.
The Union minister has assured the State to provide necessary funds for the road works including those for highway stretches-Moradabad to Corbett National Park.
