Railways to install solar panels in passenger coaches

With the national transport retrofitting its passenger trains with flexible solar panels, the Indian Railways will now run its fans, lights and mobile charging slots on the coaches on solar energy. Due to the slow running of trains, four passenger trains face the problem of running down of batteries. To end this problem, Member Rolling Stock (MRS) and Railway board have directed IROAF to fit solar PV panels on the rooftops of those trains. Manufactured in India by CEL, the total weight of the solar panel on these coaches is around 1200 kg and each coach is expected to generate 15-20 kWh of electricity per day.
