The EPL is a secure digital licence with ICAO-aligned safeguards to ensure authenticity, prevent tampering, and enable real-time verification.
Marking a significant digital milestone in India’s commercial pilot training journey, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched Electronic Personnel Licence (EPL) services for the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) in New Delhi.
Speaking at the launch, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Director General, Civil Aviation, said, “The EPL initiative is a key step towards strengthening India’s civil aviation regulatory ecosystem through secure, modern and future‑ready digital systems.”
He congratulated DGCA teams and technology partners for their efforts in implementing the initiative and acknowledged the cooperation extended by the aviation industry and stakeholders in adopting the new system.
The EPL is a secure digital licence incorporating International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)-aligned security features to ensure authenticity, prevent tampering, and enable real-time verification. Pilots can access the EPL through the eGCA mobile application, making the licensing process more efficient and transparent.
The aviation regulator commenced the rollout of EPL services in February 2025 with the Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL) and the Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s (Restricted) Licence (FRTOL). With the addition of ATPL, DGCA has reinforced its commitment to enhanced efficiency, transparency, and improved service delivery for India’s aviation sector.
