The project will generate annual lease income and create around 4,000 jobs across development, construction, and operations.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power and one of India’s leading clean energy companies, held the groundbreaking ceremony for its 800 MW renewable energy project in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday.
The project comprises 400 MW of wind capacity at Kanekallu, Anantapur, and 400 MW of solar capacity at Pattikonda, Kurnool. TPREL will develop the wind asset, while Suzlon will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scope for the wind component. The solar capacity includes a 200 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project for NTPC, integrated with a 25 MW/50 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The remaining 200 MW solar capacity is available for future allocation.

The project is being implemented under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, which encourages large‑scale investments in clean energy and promotes sustainable industrial growth. It will require 3,462 acres of land, including 2,700 acres for solar and 760 acres for wind. In addition to strengthening renewable infrastructure, the project will provide annual lease rental income and create about 4,000 jobs during development, construction, and operations, delivering sustained socio‑economic benefits to the region.
It has secured 800 MW Inter‑State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity at the Ananthapuram II and Kurnool‑4 CTUIL Substations, enabling efficient evacuation of renewable power through the national grid.
