The project forms part of the third‑line works between Nergundi‑Barang and Khurda Road‑Vizianagaram, covering the 385 km Bhadrak‑Vizianagaram corridor across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), a Ministry of Railways‑owned engineering company, has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package valued at ₹40.49 billion from East Coast Railway. The works cover critical infrastructure between the Khurda Road and Gangadharpur section in Odisha.
The project is part of the execution of third‑line works between Nergundi-Barang (22 km) and Khurda Road-Vizianagaram (363 km), spanning the 385 km Bhadrak-Vizianagaram section across Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
Saleem Ahmad, Chairman & Managing Director, RVNL, said, “This project reflects RVNL’s capability to undertake integrated infrastructure works across multiple disciplines and contribute to the development of a more efficient and future‑ready railway network.”
The package involves execution of roadbed, minor bridges, major bridges, road under bridges (RUBs) and limited height subways (LHS), building works, supply of ballast, and permanent (P) way linking. It also includes allied works such as utility shifting of signalling & telecommunication (S&T) systems. Electrification works cover general service arrangements, including power supply and modification of high tension (HT) and low tension (LT) lines between Khurda Road and Gangadharpur.
This latest L1 win further strengthens RVNL’s role in capacity enhancement along the Bhadrak-Vizianagaram corridor. The company is also executing a separate ₹96.79 billion EPC contract for construction of four major bridges under the same project.
The construction of additional railway lines on this corridor will increase capacity, ease congestion, and improve passenger and freight movement. It will also enhance connectivity between eastern and southern regions, support expanding industrial activity, and strengthen the resilience of India’s railway network.
