The agreement also offers NTPC an opportunity to expand its international footprint while deepening India’s economic engagement with Africa.

NTPC Ltd, India’s largest power utility, has partnered with Africa50, a pan-African infrastructure investment platform, to identify, assess and develop power-generation projects and explore cross-border electricity trading opportunities across Africa.

Inked in New Delhi on Thursday, the cooperation agreement brings together NTPC’s engineering, project development and operational expertise with Africa50’s capabilities in project development, investment structuring and financing. The partnership aims to advance commercially viable projects, mobilise investment and expand reliable electricity supply across the continent.

The agreement also offers NTPC an opportunity to expand its international footprint while deepening India’s economic engagement with Africa.

Gurdeep Singh, Chairman & Managing Director, NTPC, said the company looked forward to developing commercially viable power projects in mutually agreed African countries. “Combining NTPC’s technical and operational experience with Africa50’s project development capabilities and relationships across the continent creates a strong foundation for supporting reliable power supply and regional electricity trade.”

Alain Ebobisse, Group CEO, Africa50, said reliable and competitively priced electricity was central to Africa’s industrial and economic transformation. “This partnership combines Africa50’s ability to develop, de-risk and deliver investable projects with NTPC’s proven technical expertise to translate public ambition into private investment in power generation. Together, we aim to strengthen regional power systems that support industrial growth, expand trade and create jobs.”

Under the agreement, NTPC will contribute its technical, engineering, project development, construction management and operational capabilities to assess project feasibility, develop solutions and advance identified opportunities towards implementation.

Africa50 will draw on its pipeline of infrastructure projects and relationships with governments and regulators across its African shareholder network to identify priority projects, structure them for investment and support their development through the project life cycle. The platform was established to help bridge Africa’s infrastructure funding gap by developing investment-ready projects and mobilising public and private capital.
