Sanjay Aggarwal, Managing Director, Fortum India, has assumed the responsibility of initiating and developing a future growth platform for Fortum in India. Fortum´s purpose is to create energy that improves life for the present and future generations, catering to the versatile needs of the customers. With a total sales of EUR 4.75 billion and comparable operating profit of EUR 1.35 billion in 2014, Fortum generates, distributes and sells electricity & heat, and offers related expert services. Its operations focus on the Nordic and Baltic countries, Russia and Poland. Fortum employs approximately 8,800 people and its shares are traded on the Nasdaq Helsinki.
Before joining Fortum, Sanjay was the Chief of Projects (ENRP), TATA Power and lead all Project Development & Project Management activities in coal, waste gas, and hydro projects covering power generation, combined heat and power solutions and coal mining in northern & eastern India. He was also on the Board of IEL Ltd ( a JV of Tata Power & Tata Steel), Mandakini Coal Mines Ltd ( a JV of Tata Power, Jindal Photo & Monnet Ispat) & Tubed Coal Mine Ltd ( a JV of Tata Power & Hindalco). He has 27 years of experience in the Energy Sector and brings with him an all-round expertise in project development, project management & execution, marketing and sales of IPP industrial captive power plants, IPP business development, developing BOOM or BOOT models, project & structured finance, asset management services, operation and management agreements, creating new businesses, and coal mine development. He began his career with Tata Motors and has worked in Thermax , ABB, Wartsila India Ltd, and Tata Power. He has a wealthof multifaceted and multi-market experience, having been a business leader in Indian as well as global energy companies. He is an alumnus of Delhi College of Engineering, where he majored in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Power Plant Practice & Automobile Engineering.
