Adani Port slams Shipping ministry for allowing cabotage relaxation only to DP world run Vallarpadam Port. The Vallarpadam port had received cabotage relaxation in the year 2012, since then not a single port (including private ports) have not received such facility from the ministry.

“It is discrimination on business. I do not understand why such discrimination they took and why two classes of ports they create. This decision is totally unacceptable,” said Rajeeva Sinha, Director, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone to Infrastructure Today.

We have asked Government to review this issue again and again but government has not come out with any decision yet, Sinha said adding that Ports needs ship and thus need coastal shipping, but giving such facility only one port is not justified.

However, according to shipping ministry official one of the reasons for starting the Vallarpadam was to compete with neighbouring ports as there is a growing concern in India over the handling of its cargo in the neighbouring (international) ports.
