Air travel in smaller cities to take off

The Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Pusapati Raju said his ministry is focusing on improving air connectivity in the country. The ministry has cleared six proposals allowing them to launch airlines after getting the requisite approvals. In addition to achieving its target of providing the flying option to a large part of the population, the ministry is also working on creating infrastructure to facilitate air travel in smaller cities by announcing it will build five low-cost airports by the end of this fiscal. These low-cost airports will provide basic facilities like railway stations and will come up in smaller cities where smaller planes (between 10-and-70-seater) will provide air connectivity.

The aviation ministry is also working to lower costs for air operations in the country by convincing States to reduce taxes on jet fuel.
