Airport Express Line operational

The Airport Express Line in Delhi commenced operations in the presence of Sreedharan, MD, DMRC and Lalit Jalan, Director and CEO of RInfra. The first train reached Airport T3 within 20 minutes. The Airport Express line has been constructed and commissioned by Delhi Airport Metro Express (DAMEL) which also manages operations and maintenance of Airport Express.

The project was completed within 27 months against global airport projects from New York, London and Sydney, which took four, five and six years respectively, setting a global precedent.

The airport express connects New Delhi, Shivaji Stadium, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Aerocity, IGI Airport and Dwarka Sector 21. Of the total of 22.7 km, the train runs underground for 15.7 km and goes on to an elevated track for the remaining seven km. Baggage check-in facilities will be available at New Delhi and Shivaji stations. The services will operate at a frequency of 20 minutes. The check in service is expected to start shortly.
