The launch is expected to bring the Arcelor Mittal-Nippon Steel joint venture closer to its goal of securing a 25 per cent market share in India’s colour-coated steel segment over the next few years.
ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has launched Optigal Prime and Optigal Pinnacle, two premium colour-coated steel products under its Optigal portfolio. These specialised variants are designed for large-scale infrastructure and construction projects, including airports, railway stations, highways, and commercial buildings.
The launch aligns with the joint venture’s strategy to pioneer a new market segment in high-quality C4 specialty steel, where the Arcelor Mittal and Nippon Steel joint venture company remains the sole domestic producer. C4 refers to a highly corrosive environment where steel structures in industrial or urban areas face rapid deterioration due to high humidity and pollution, requiring strong protective coatings to prevent rust and damage.
Connecting the launch to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047, Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice-President of Sales & Marketing at AM/NS India, remarked, “Growth in steel production has powered the rise of economies such as China and South Korea. India’s transformation will be no different.”
India’s colour-coated steel market, currently estimated at 3.4 million tonnes, is growing steadily at around 10 per cent annually. The launch of Optigal Prime and Optigal Pinnacle is expected to bring AM/NS India closer to its goal of securing a 25 per cent market share in the segment over the next few years.
According to the company, Optigal Prime is engineered for urban and moderately corrosive environments and comes with a 15-year warranty. Featuring advanced finishes such as silicon modified polyester (SMP), super durable polyester (SDP), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), it is ideal for roofing, cladding, and various construction applications.
Optigal Pinnacle is the top-tier variant, specifically designed for harsh industrial and coastal conditions. Backed by a 25-year warranty, it incorporates high-performance polyurethane (PU) and polyamide (PA) coatings that enhance resistance to moisture, UV rays, and extreme temperatures, making it ideal for demanding environments such as airports, warehouses, and marine-facing buildings.
Sustainable Innovation and Advanced Protection
“Optigal Prime and Optigal Pinnacle reflect our commitment to quality, durability, and sustainable innovation. As India’s infrastructure landscape evolves, we are proud to provide world-class, high-performance steel solutions that meet diverse climatic and industrial requirements,” said Dhar.
The two products will be available in six specialised variants—high gloss, anti-dust, anti-graffiti, anti-static, anti-microbial, and cool roof—catering to the varying needs of India’s rapidly expanding construction and infrastructure sectors. Developed using zinc-aluminium-magnesium technology, these coatings offer three times the corrosion and weather resistance compared to conventional coatings.
AM/NS India has designed the Optigal range with an eco-conscious approach, incorporating low VOC emissions, no heavy metals or hexavalent chromium, and 100 per cent recyclability, making these steel solutions an excellent choice for sustainable construction.
Manufactured at the company’s state-of-the-art facility in Pune, Maharashtra, AM/NS India’s colour-coated steel production capacity currently stands at about 700,000 tonnes annually, with plans to expand to one million tonnes soon.
