Govt clears 14 FDI proposals

Mumbai-based Hindustan Port received government approval to receive foreign funds worth Rs 440 crore for investment in downstream companies. The above plan is part of the 14 foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals worth about Rs 1,311.60 crore approved by the government recently based on the recommendations of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB).

ABG, PSA for JNPT project

Union Minister for Shipping GK Vasan informed that the world's largest port operator PSA International and the ABG Group would be allowed to bid at the fresh tender for the proposed fourth container terminal project at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) as long as they are not blacklisted. The contract given to the above two firms for constructing the 4.8 million tonne container terminal was cancelled as they failed to sign the concession agreement within the stipulated deadline.

Japan to build up world's largest offshore wind farm

Japan is to build the world's largest offshore wind farm to replace the crippled nuke plant at Fukushima following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. The country plans to build a total of 143 wind turbines on platforms 16 km off the coast of Fukushima by 2020, which is home to the stricken Daiichi nu­clear reactor that hit the headlines in March 2011 when it was damaged by a severe earthquake and tsunami.

BHEL starts steam turbine generator unit in Ethiopia

Government-owned BHEL said it has commissioned its first steam turbine and generator (STG) unit at a power plant in Ethiopia of Africa. The steam turbine generator set of 12 MW capacity has been commissioned at the Finchaa Sugar Factory for the plant's own use, it said.The company said that the plant will supply process steam and power to the sugar factory and the excess power will be supplied to the Ethiopian Electricity Power Company.

Suzlon Group's wind park in Kutch district of Gujarat has crossed 1,000 MW of installed capacity. This makes the company's Kutch wind park one of the largest of its kind in India. Suzlon currently has a total installed capacity of over 1,500 MW in Gujarat.Apart from Kutch, the company's other installations in the state are at Jamanagar, Porbandar, Rajkot and Bhav­nagar.

The board of directors of the company has recently given its approval for the investment plans. Nalco's 2nd wind power project

National Aluminium Co (Nalco) is setting up its second wind power project of 50 MW capacity in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan at a cost of around Rs 190 crore. The public sector firm, which placed an order for the Rajasthan project to Gamesa, expects to operationalise the plant in the next seven months. The company's first wind power plant, of 50 MW capacity, at Gandikota in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh was commissioned recently.

ONGC Tripura Power unit

The first unit of the 2x363.3 ONGC Tripura Power Corporation (OTPC) at Palatana in Tripura, which is on trial run, is set to start commercial operations by mid-February, provided the EPC contractor BHEL succeeds in stabilising the unit. OTPC is confident to offer adequate load to run the unit at full capacity as the transmission line from Palatana to Silchar in Assam already having been commissioned and on course to be extended up to Byrnihat in Meghalaya soon.

Adhunik Power & Natural Resources has declared commercial operation of its first unit of 270 MW of 2x270 MW thermal power plant on January 21. The company is setting up two units of 270 MW coal based thermal power plant at village Padampur in Jharkhand in first stage of its project. The first unit of 2x270 MW was synchronised on November 13, 2012 and the commercial operation has been declared on January 21, 2013.
