Rail solar panels can save 11 cr litres of fuel
Fitting a solar panel module on the roof of a railway coach can yield more than 7,200 units of electricity annually. If implemented on all 63,511 coaches in the Railways, 450 million units of power can be harnessed resulting in savings of 10.8 crore litres of diesel and reduction of carbon dioxide emission by about 3 lakh tonne.
Railways to seek Rs.1 lakh cr for safety fund
The Railways Ministry will seek around Rs 1 lakh crore from the finance ministry for a special railway safety fund. This will be used to implement several measures aimed at sprucing up safety performance and checking the spate of recent train accidents which have claimed several lives.
AAI goes for expansion
State-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) will invest up to Rs 1,400 crore in further expansion of Chennai Airport and setting up an ATC tower at Kolkata Airport. This comes after the government dropped its privatisation plans.
Investment in Railways to increase
Girish Pillai, Advisor-Infrastructure, Indian Railways, has highlighted key features of the Indian RailwaysĆĀ“ five-year action plan. Pillai said the National Transport Development Policy Committee has estimated investment till 2032 to be worth Rs 32,00,000 crore.
Infra firms pitch for regulator to monitor PPP projects across sectors
Infrastructure players have pitched for a neutral regulator to look into issues in public-private-partnership (PPP) projects. They highlighted this to the Vijay Kelkar Committee that is looking into ĆĀ“revisiting and revitalising the PPP model of infrastructure developmentĆĀ“
Odisha approves Rs.41,900 cr investment proposals
The High Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) has approved seven projects with investments totalling Rs 41,900 cr. Among the projects cleared was an FDI proposal by Japan based J Green Power Ltd to set up 423 MW gas-based power plant at a cost of Rs 3,106 crore.
Govt plans project to connect Char Dham
The highways ministry is planning to connect Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarakhand with 889 km of disaster-proof two-lane roads at a cost of Rs 12,000 cr. Detailed project reports are reportedly in the final stages and the ministry is likely to invite bids for road stretches in October.
Tata Projects eyes smart cities opportunity
Tata Group company Tata Projects Limited has created a dedicated division to tap opportunities generated by the Smart Cities initiative.ĆĀ“A separate division has been created this month,ĆĀ“ Tata Projects VP and Head (smart city business) Gautam Balakrishnan said on the side-ĆĀ”lines of Urban Infrastructure Conclave, 2015.
