Traveling on Bengaluru’s roads in Central Business District (CBD) could get a lot smoother in 2013, if the BBMPÂ’s plans come through. The civic body has invited bids under its Tender SURE (Specification for Urban Road Execution) project, which sets high standards for laying and maintenance of the roads. The State government has allotted Rs 200 crore for project in its budget for 2012-13.
The BBMP has planned to upgrade 45 roads, but considering the resources available in the budget, seven roads will be taken up in the first phase. The seven roads include Residency Road, Richmond Road, Cunningham Road, Commissariat Road, Museum Road, St MarkÂ’s Road and Vittal Mallya Road.
Consultant India Urban Space has prepared the detailed project report (DPR) for the seven roads. The consultant is also engaged in preparing DPR for four other roads – Brigade Road, Brunton Road, Primrose Road and Vittal Mallya Road, according to an official in the Infrastructure Department of the BBMP.
Various consultants are working on preparing the DPR for the remaining 32 roads, the official said. Over the last couple of months, the Palike is in talks with the stakeholders in the project, considering that Tender SURE not only looks a the width of the road and other facilities above the road, but what is below the road as well.
