BMC to try PMB technology to repair roads

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is considering the Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) technology to repair the city roads. BMC, which faced immense flak for the non-motorable condition of the Western and Eastern Express Highways, is keeping its hopes on this technology to repair and maintain Mumbai roads. PMB technology has kept the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) going without a crater for over four years.

BMC officials say that the PMB technology has been used for the past several years with good effect on highways. Hence BMC wants trying it out. Water getting accumulated on certain stretches of the highways is not draining in time. It is penetrating through the asphalt and disturbing the soil underneath.

This soil disturbance is one of the reasons why potholes get formed, BMC officials say.
