Bengal Tiger Line (BTL) would initially launch a fortnightly feeder service between Marg Karaikal Port and Colombo. The service would be upgraded to weekly as volumes stabilizes, an official release from Karaikal Port said.

In its first call, the vessel Tiger Bridge carried 1,900 Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) cargo to Karaikal Port, which is located nearly 250 kilometer (km) south of Chennai in Puducherry.

The inaugural call saw export of 50 containers of cement of CMA-CGM, the French container shipping giant. Continuing and strengthening its presence in handling liquid cargo, the newly constructed Tankages in the port have augmented the total capacity of port to 19,000 cbm.

The arrival of first shipment of Crude Palmolein vide vessel Maple marked the commissioning of the new oil tankages. Also, the port is regularly handling Refined Edible Oil for KTV Health, the release said. The port handled over 1.25 lakh tonne export cargo of wheat belonging to Food Corporation of India.
