Canal Road in Nagpur repaired for the 4th time in 2-yrs

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has wasted money on repairing (asphalting) a road for the fourth time in the last two years, well within the defect liability period in which the contractor is responsible for any problems. At the same time, a nearby stretch of road has been neglected for over 10 years. The sorry state of affairs continues despite strict directives by municipal commissioner Shyam Wardhane.

The 250-300 metre stretch of Dharampeth Canal Road, which links WHC road and Agrasen road (Zenda square to RTO Office), was asphalted from Mangalam Marvel building to Agrasen road a couple of days ago. An engineer from NMC Dharampeth Zone said the work was carried out with funds sanctioned under district planning committee (DPC) quota.

Work order of 19.89 lakh was issued on January 18 to a private contractor. The work includes asphalting the stretch of Canal Road and the road around Trikoni Park, Dharampeth. The work also included laying interlocking tiles around the park. Corporator Maya Iwnate had recommended the work, he said.
