After Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) approached the Centre seeking its nod to restart civilian aircraft operations from its airport, chorus in support of reopening the facility is growing. Industry representatives, former bureaucrats, aviation experts, the CMÂ’s advisor on urban affairs and a minister opine that Bangalore needs two airports. The HAL airport that had handled a large number of passengers a year before its closure is now used only for defence and VVIP flights.

Kerala govt asked to withdraw support to airport project
The Kerala government should withdraw from the controversial airport project at Aranmula if it was serious and sincere about its recent budget proposals, Communist Party of India district unit secretary P Prasad has said. In a statement issued in Pathanamthitta on March 17, Prasad alleged that the budget proposals had got a lot of contradictions with various projects launched by the United Democratic Front (UDF) government and it amply exposed the governmentÂ’s double standards.
Ajit Singh says Indian aviation sector is reviving
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on March 17 that various government policy measures for the civil aviation sector have begun to yield results and the airline industry in India is witnessing a revival. On account of these policies, the general aviation business would emerge as a key driver of regional connectivity and economic development, he said.

As Airports Authority of India (AAI) clears the final hurdles to make the shift into the newly constructed airport terminals, senior officials have revealed that the existing ones (named after former Chief Ministers Kamaraj and Anna) will be used for such storage and utility purposes.

Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai airports rated high by ACI
India's Delhi and Hyderabad airports managed by GMR Group and Mumbai airport by GVK Group have been rated high in respective categories in Airport Quality Service (ASQ) by Airports Council International (ACI) for 2012. The Indira Gandhi International airport at Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Hyderabad, both managed by GMR Infrastructure have secured second positions in respective categories.

Govt planning to revive Juhu airport: Ajit Singh
The Union Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to revive the Juhu airport in Mumbai to ease the traffic burden in the city. The move is in view of the air traffic at the Mumbai airport rising and the proposed Navi Mumbai airport getting delayed. The Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said that Juhu (airport) becomes very important if Mumbai has to maintain its position as the commercial and financial capital of India.
No delay from Aviation Ministry to AirAsia’s JV
There would be no delay in granting necessary approvals to Malaysian carrier AirAsia for its proposal to start an airline here with Tatas if all required information is provided to government agencies, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on March 17. There are some procedural issues which will be settled and there is nothing to worry. We welcome AirAsia-Tata Joint Venture (JV) and hope that it will be operational soon, he said on the sidelines of Routes Asia Conference held in Mumbai.
