In coastal Andhra Pradesh, the extension works of the canal road between Kakinada and Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram have commenced. The 62-km length of the canal road will be widened to 10.5 metre from the existing eight metre. Transstroy Company is executing the Rs 298-crore works. Gravel track on both sides of the road will also be laid.

61 firms pre-qualified for NHAI’s highway bidding
To participate directly in the financial bidding for highway projects in 2013 the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has pre-qualified 61 infrastructure companies. In the list, there are two companies that can bid for projects involving capital cost of Rs 14,411 crore. Three firms in the list can put in financial bids directly for the highway construction projects of between Rs 8,000 crore and Rs 10,000 crore.
Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road may be ready finally
In Mumbai, a crucial bridge over the central railway lines at Kurla to complete Mumbai's most sought-after east-west road connectivity -- the SCLR -- between western and eastern express highways is expected to be finally ready soon. Thus the SCLR -- Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road -- may get open for traffic by this year end.
Andhra govt may seek Rs 10 bn aid from World Bank for road project
The Andhra Pradesh government would soon approach the World Bank for financial assistance for its road upgradation projects in various parts of the state, especially in rural areas. The state government plans to seek a Rs 1,000-crore credit line from the World Bank once the proposal receives approval from the state cabinet
Pamban road bridge in Rameswaram to get a facelift
A facelift is to be given to the Annai Indira Gandhi Bridge, or the Pamban road bridge that connects the mainland to the island town of Rameswaram. As part of silver jubilee year of the the bridge, the facelift is being planned at a cost of Rs 18.57 crore. Renovation work on the 2.345-km-long bridge, inaugurated by the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on October 2, 1988, was heralded by special puja and prayers during Wednesday and Thursday.
Work to be resumed on Porur flyover in Chennai
In Chennai, work on the flyover at the busy junction in Porur has been put on hold by the highways department as there was a delay on the part of Chennai Metrowater in shifting water mains from the Chembarambakkam lake that run beneath the roadĂâs surface.
Odisha’s two-laning of NHs to be over by 2017
